Yonkers Main Street
Mural Project
Posted by Westchester.com
Thursday, 21 August 2008
Yonkers, NY - The Yonkers Downtown Waterfront BID
in partnership with Rising Development–Yonkers, LLC and with the support
of the Blue Door Artist Association is sponsoring the creation of murals
in Downtown Yonkers that will be painted on the gates and wall of 36, 38
and 41 Main Street, respectively. The intent is to create a dialogue about the
exciting future of Yonkers Downtown among artists, businesses, residents
and visitors, and to provide another opportunity for artists to display
their works. Artists are invited to submit designs for these murals. Submissions will be evaluated and three designs will be selected by a panel consisting of the Yonkers Downtown Waterfront BID, Rising Development - Yonkers, LLC and the Blue Door Artist Association. Murals will be painted directly onto the metal
gates of 36 and 38 Main Street and onto the plywood covering of the
façade of 41 Main Street. All artwork is temporary. Each selected artist
will be reimbursed for his or her materials. Artists are asked to
include compensation requests upon submission. Although there is no thematic requirement, artists
are invited to reflect on their vision for the future of Yonkers
Downtown. Submissions shall be due by the close of business
September 2, 2008. Selected artists will be announced on September 13 at
this year’s Yonkers’ Riverfest.
