Labor specialist tapped as Yonkers employment chief

YONKERS - Mayor Philip Amicone Thursday announced the appointment of Daniel Grella as full-time executive director of the Yonkers Workforce Investment Board (YWIB).

Grella has more than 30 years experience with the New York State Department of Labor administering and supervising various government workforce development programs, including Workforce Investment Act programs.

Under the Workforce Investment Act, the City of Yonkers is the conduit for federal funds that provide employment and training programs for city residents. As the city's chief executive, the mayor is responsible for administering those programs and may appoint a board of directors and an executive director to govern their operations.

The ratification of Grella's appointment will be on the agenda for the next meeting of the YWIB.

Connecting employers and job seekers within the community, the YWIB contributes to the development of a high quality workforce, assists businesses with employment needs, and enhances the quality of life for all Yonkers residents.
